Attendance

All athletes are expected to be present, prepared, and on time to practice and scheduled events. Sequencing of workouts and rest is an exact science, so missing a practice is extremely detrimental to your training.

  • Being late to practice will result in being held after practice to complete PR (Pride Reminders).

  • Avoid missing practice whenever possible. When an absence is unavoidable, the athlete is responsible for telling their event coach or Coach Evans in person or by email ahead of time.

  • In the case of an unforeseen emergency, a parent or guardian should email the coaching staff.

  • An absence that would be considered unexcused by the school will be considered unexcused by ENTF.

  • Absences, regardless of whether they are excused or not must be made up so as to not lose credit for missing the workout. See your event coach for details.

  • More than three unexcused absences without prior notice will result in a meeting with coaches and appropriate action up to possible removal from the team.

Academics

All athletes in the ENTF Program are first and foremost students at Edmond North High School. The sport of Track & Field is part of the much larger endeavor of providing you an opportunity for a well-rounded education. It is our goal to reinforce other aspects of your education taking place at home, in the classroom, and in your studies. It is an expectation that you take your course work seriously.

Eligibility

An average lower than 60% in any class will put you on probation and a second consecutive week of 60% or lower in any class will result in your ineligibility. You also must be present in each class 90% of the time, so excessive absences may also result in ineligibility. For a comprehensive explanation of the school and OSSAA policy on eligibility rules, please see the OSSAA and EPS handbooks.

Grading

Athletes in the Track & Field Program are expected to be enrolled in the 7th hour class. Each athlete will receive a grade based on the following criteria*:

  • Meet Participation (50%) All athletes are required to attend and compete in two meets at minimum during the outdoor season. This includes JV athletes. Not meeting this requirement will almost assuredly result in a failing grade.

  • Practice Participation (25%) All athletes are expected to be present and complete the workout everyday, including the strength-training component. For each missed workout that is not excused, two (2) percentage points will be deducted. Missed workouts can be made up at the discretion of the coaching staff.

  • Effort and Attitude (25%) Athletes should approach each workout with an attitude that hard work will pay off as gains in both individual athletic improvement and team success. You should be willing to listen to coaches, give your all in practice, and help the team in anyway you can.

*       Managers will be graded with different requirements but similar criteria: participation, effort, and attitude.

*       Those that cannot practice or compete due to injury or eligibility will be asked to contribute by taking on manager duties.
