History

Edmond North Track & Field’s first season was 1994, a year before Edmond North became a four-year high school. That year under the leadership of legendary coach Steve Patterson, without a single junior or senior, the Boys team placed 2nd at the 4A State Championship with their first two State Champions, Tabor LeBlanc in Discus and Ben Schadegg in Long Jump. That team also featured a very strong group of young sprinters led by Terrance Wakefield, Fred Johnson, John Ashley, and Jason Briscoe that would be the foundation of Edmond North’s first State Championship teams in 1995 and 1996. Despite some very good boys teams in the following two decades, including those led by State record holder and three-time State Champion Quintell Wilson and two-time State Champion Adam Godwin, Edmond North’s next team trophy at State didn’t come until 2016 with a 2nd place finish in a team record six-gold-metal performance, led by Brock Appiah, Jordan Prince, Antonio Williams, and Justin Tate.

The Girls team also started strong with Megan Toole, 3-time State Champion in the High Jump, becoming their first State Champion in 1994. Edmond North absolutely dominated the half-mile for six straight years, led by Hannah Helker, winning a combination of the 800m and 4x800 at State from 2007 to 2012 and a team runner-up trophy in 2010. In 2014, they again won the runner-up trophy at State on the shoulders of a historic sprint team made up of Quinn Patterson, Rylee Rose, Taylor Scoggin, and State record holder Jade Patton.
