What Is Track & Field

Track & Field is a pure sport. You can’t play track, and it’s not a game. Track & Field is a test of individual will and athletic fortitude. It is you versus yourself everyday as you train and strive to get faster, fitter, stronger, and mentally tougher. When the competition begins, track athletes can’t hide behind teammates or on a bench. They are exposed on an athletic stage with nothing but their raw ability, their will to win, and the hard work they have put into their training. Track & Field is a pure sport for those serious about being an athlete.

Be An Athlete

One of the themes of our Program is “Be An Athlete.” Being an athlete is an attitude, it is a lifestyle, and it is essential to success in Track & Field. It is more than the activities you participate in and the sports you play. It is how you approach workouts, how you take care of your body, and the choices you make. An athlete attacks their training with a positive attitude because they understand that they get out of their workout what they put into it. They give their all until the last rep in practice so that they can leave it all on the field (or track) when it matters. They encourage their teammates to approach their training with the same enthusiasm because they know that the success of others will only make them better.

An athlete pays attention to their nutrition and sleep habits. They know that how they fuel and refuel their body is important to their performance. They also make good decisions in and out of the classroom. Athletes don’t put their future in jeopardy by neglecting their studies or putting themselves in compromising situations.

An athlete holds themselves to a high standard in all aspects of their life and encourages their teammates to do the same. An athlete cares, and their drive to succeed shows up at every practice, every meal, every class, and every meet.
